In 1974 the term of office for an elected position in Pi Lam was
changed from an academic year (Fall semester through Spring semester) to a
calendar year (January to December.)
The 1974 President was Bruce McLeod; while the Spring Pledgemaster
was Neil "Bip" Bezerman. The following semester, Fall 1974 George Bond was
elected Pledgemaster.
The 1975 President was Mark Mellen who resigned during the Fall
semester, Rich Sperazzo fulfilled the presidential responsibilities for
the remainder of the term. The Spring 1975 Pledgemaster was Hal Russek.
For the first time in Lambda Chi's history, there was no Pledge Class in
the Fall of 1976. The Spring 1976 Pledgemaster was Dean Paolucci.
Horrible tragedy struck the Fraternity in the summer of 1976, when
Brother James Fenwick was murdered in his hometown of Binghamton, New
York. Fenwick, an offensive lineman for the Ithaca Bombers, had apparently
been involved in a minor traffic accident and tried to ease tensions and
calm the situation with several occupants of the other car. But when
tempers flared, one or more of the other occupants returned to their car
and ran Fenwick over, dragging him several hundred feet to his death. It
is not known whether or not other parties involved were ever brought to
justice.
Remembered for his kind, generous and levelheaded personality, the
Brotherhood established the James T. Fenwick Memorial Award in his honor
during the Fall of 1976. It was to be given to the graduating senior
Brother who had given the most of himself during his years of active
membership. Barry Appleman and Rich Sperazzo were the first recipients.
The 1977 President was Steve Buis, while the Spring Pledgemaster
was Jay Schneider. Barry Sheridan was the Fraternity Advisor. At this
time, Pi Lambda Chi is again looking for a house off-campus.
